Hot Chicken Takeover and Cleveland Kraut collaborate on spicy new sandwich

Ohio brands offering limited time menu release in support of North Union Farmers Market

Cleveland, OH— Nashville-style hot chicken meets sauerkraut in this brand new mash-up from beloved Ohio brands, Hot Chicken Takeover (HCT) and Cleveland Kraut. Available at all Hot Chicken Takeover locations Monday, February 3 – Sunday, February 9, this limited time menu item will feature Cleveland Kraut’s Gnar Gnar, piled high on HCT’s signature fried chicken or vegan Not Chicken sandwich. For every Gnar Gnar sandwich purchased the week of the collaboration, Hot Chicken Takeover and Cleveland Kraut will donate $1 to North Union Farmers Market.

“We started Hot Chicken Takeover in 2014 with a focus on providing high integrity products, extraordinary service and creating meaningful impact in the communities we serve,” shares Joe DeLoss, Founder and CEO of Hot Chicken Takeover. “We’re humbled to partner with Cleveland Kraut, a like-minded business and Cleveland icon, doing good on a national scale.”

Described as Cleveland’s answer to kimchi, Gnar Gnar is made with jalapenos, green bell peppers and Ohio sourced green cabbage, adding a delicious and spicy crunch to Hot Chicken Takeover’s signature sandwich. Cleveland Kraut started sharing their unique and nostalgic sauerkraut recipes at the North Union Farmers Market in 2013, quickly growing into a nationally known brand sold in major retailers across the U.S. including, Whole Foods Market, Giant Eagle and Publix.

“It’s been so exciting as we grow as a company to be able to continue to grow here in Ohio,” says Drew Anderson, Co-founder and CEO of Cleveland Kraut. “We sold our first batches of kraut at North Union Farmers Market, so we’re pumped to partner with Hot Chicken Takeover, another Ohio company going big, to create a limited edition combo for our fans and give back to the community.”

North Union Farmers Market is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, championing the local foods of Northeast Ohio and promoting their health, economic and environmental benefits by connecting certified producers with consumers. They currently manage nine outdoor and two indoor winter markets in Northeast Ohio, including Shaker Square, Crocker Park, Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, Chagrin Falls, Legacy Village, Pinecrest, Playhouse Square, University Hospitals and The Van Aken District.

“We’ve loved having both of these wonderful Ohio food businesses at our farmer’s markets and we are honored to be their beneficiary in this delicious and generous promotion! Fundraising like this helps to further our work with local businesses and provide food education within our community,” shares North Union Farmers Market General Manager Emma Visnic.

“The North Union Farmers Market was instrumental in our success last summer, allowing us to expand our brand and create authentic relationships with our neighbors in the Cleveland market. We’re incredibly grateful for their continued partnership and the meaningful work they are doing in our community,” shares DeLoss.

Opening their first Northeast Ohio location at Crocker Park in the fall of 2019, Hot Chicken Takeover’s newest restaurant is nestled between H&M, Starbucks and Homage, and is open 11am – 9pm, seven days a week.
