National Waffle Day 2018

Hot Chicken Takeover celebrates National Waffle Day on August 24

On August 24, 1869, the first United States patent for a waffle iron was issued to Cornelius Swarthout of Troy, New York. Hence, making August 24 an appropriate designation for National Waffle Day. At HCT, we’ll be offering waffles in place of bread on this special day for a small upcharge.

Fun Facts:

Waffles inspired Nike’s first pair of sneakers

In 1971, Bill Bowerman was inspired when he saw his wife using their waffle iron. He realized the honeycomb shape of the waffle would be the perfect shape for the sole of running shoe. He actually used a waffle iron to create the first Nike sneaker sole.

The world’s biggest waffle is 8 feet long

In 2013 at the Stitching Gouda Oogst of the Netherlands, the World’s Largest Waffle was presented. Weighing in at 110lbs, it has held the record for over 5 years.

Eggo Waffles were originally called “Froffles”

A combination of “Frozen” and “Waffles” didn’t really resonate with consumers initially, so they went back to basics.

At Hot Chicken Takeover, our waffles are made fresh each day, dusted with powdered sugar, and topped with warm butter-infused maple syrup. It’s a labor of love, and we’re excited to bring them to you on this special day. You can place your order online to assure you won’t miss out on this special offering.
