Hot Chicken Takeover Celebrates National Fried Chicken Day on July 6

Columbus, OH – Hot Chicken Takeover (HCT) is hosting a celebration focused on making a community impact on National Fried Chicken Day.

The local restaurant chain, which has three locations in Central Ohio, is donating $1 from every meal purchased on Friday, July 6 to Food Rescue US, an organization focused on alleviating food insecurity in our community.

“We recognize that many people will be eating fried chicken on National Fried Chicken Day,” comments Hot Chicken Takeover Founder, Joe DeLoss. “We thought it would meaningful to leverage that interest and use it to help members in our community.”

Food Rescue US transfers fresh, usable food that would have otherwise been thrown away from restaurants and grocers to shelters and organizations that provide food insecure families throughout Central Ohio and beyond. For food-insecure families, summer can be a struggle for kids who don’t have access to school meals.

“Many folks think about food insecurity around the holiday months,” remarks Kevin Mullins, Food Rescue US Co-Founder. “But the truth is, food insecurity happens year-round, and  summer can be a challenging time of year when it comes to resources.  We’re grateful that HCT is helping shed light on this conversation and generating support .”

Hot Chicken Takeover will host a Wing-Eating Contest at each location featuring local celebrities, customers, and team members. The winner of the contest will have 2,000 meals donated to Food Rescue US in their name.

“We wanted to do something fun with our customers and team, while still making an impact,” shares DeLoss. “We felt like a Wing-Eating Contest like this would be fun–and the meal donations would be beneficial to the community.”

Typically only a weekend option, the restaurant will also add waffles to the menu that day.

“Community is extremely important to our customers and to Hot Chicken Takeover,” remarks DeLoss. “I couldn’t imagine celebrating any other way.”
